Frequently asked

What is Flag Calendar?

An app that tells you when to fly the flag, and how. It carries 49 countries and territories and more than 500 flag days, with the hoisting and lowering time for your date and place, whether the flag goes to full mast, half mast or one third, and a link to the regulation the rule comes from. The project started out as Flag Days and was renamed to Flag Calendar.

Which platforms is it on?

iPhone first, with home screen widgets and an Apple Watch app. An Android version is planned, and this page will carry the Google Play link as soon as it is live.

Where do the rules come from?

Each day is taken from the government's own regulation for that country, and the app links back to it so you can read the source yourself. Where a country's practice and its written rule disagree, we follow the rule and say so in the note on the day.

A date or a time is wrong for my country. What now?

Please tell us, and send the regulation if you have it to hand. Flag protocol is full of exceptions and we would rather be corrected than be politely wrong. Email hello@gledly.eu.

Does it need my location or the internet?

No internet is needed. Location is used only to pick the right rule and to work out local sunrise and sunset, and it stays on your device. You can skip it and choose your country yourself. See the privacy policy.

How are the movable days worked out?

They are computed, not stored. Easter, midsummer, Advent and the weekday rules come from the same definitions the authorities use, so the dates hold for any year rather than running out at the end of a table.

I bought the full atlas. How do I get it back?

The unlock is a one-time purchase tied to the store account you bought it with, so signing in with the same account and reinstalling restores it at no extra cost. A purchase made on the App Store does not carry over to Google Play, or the other way round: the two stores cannot see each other. If it does not come back, email us and we will sort it out.
